Overcup oaks are a white oak that typically begin to produce acorns at about 25 years of age. In good soils and full sunlight they can begin producing acorns at younger ages. Acorns range in size from 3/4 of an inch to 1-1/2 inches. Overcup oaks produce good acorn crops every 3 or 4 years beginning when the trees are about 25 years old. The acorns drop from late October through November. Overcup leaves turn yellow-brown in the fall.

Overcup oaks prefer acidic, loamy soils that are moist and well drained. However, they will also grow in sandy or clay soils and will survive in wet locations. Overcup oaks can even survive in areas with extensive flooding. For best results, these trees should be planted in areas with good soil that receive full sunlight.
