Water oaks are a moderately-fast growing red oak that, under average conditions, begin to produce acorns at about 20 years of age. Water oaks produce acorns that are about 1/2 inch in size and heavy crops can be expected every year. The acorns drop from late October through November and are consumed by many wildlife species. Water oak leaves turn yellow in the fall.
Water oaks do best in acidic, loamy soils that are moist and well drained, but they are very hardy trees and will grow in a variety of locations including clay soils, sandy soils, heavy, compacted soil, and wet locations. For best results, these trees should be planted in areas with good soil that receive full sunlight.
Our shipping period for all oak trees except Sawtooths is Jan. 15th through June 15th. See our Shipping page for more information.
We are unable to ship trees to Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, North Dakota, Oregon, Wyoming, or outside the United States.
Current quantities are conservative estimates. We will provide exact quantities in November once the trees have finished growing for the year.
